Winter Semester at Mendel University: Real Tech, Real Experience

At Kentico, we believe mentoring the next generation of digital professionals is one of the best investments in our industry’s future. That’s why for the third time, we’ve partnered with Mendel University’s Faculty of Business and Economics in Brno. This ongoing collaboration gives students hands-on exposure to the skills, tools, and mindsets needed for careers in tech.

This winter semester, our Kentico ambassadors led a packed series of expert lectures and practical workshops. Each session offered a sneak peek into everyday life at a global tech company.

Our sessions covered five key areas of digital product development: QA & Development, Technical Writing, UX Design, Security, and Artificial Intelligence. Each one was designed to bridge theory with real-world practice.

“Kentico brings added value by providing students with access to real industry expertise. Alongside the theory and practice we teach, the involvement of professionals allows students to understand how things work in real companies and what is expected from them. My goal was for them to experience this connection with practice before they leave school.”

A Semester Full of Tech Practice.

We kicked things off with a session on Development & QA, introducing students to how we structure our teams, what principles guide our development, and how we ensure quality at every stage. To keep things interactive, we included a short quiz during the lecture. This was followed by two practical labs, where students tested aapplication and reported bugs. With each challenge, the complexity increased, mirroring the real-life experience of a QA engineer.

In the Technical Writing workshop, students completed three exercises. After reviewing key writing principles, they identified errors in sample sentences and suggested clearer, more user-friendly alternatives. This session showed just how vital clear writing is in the tech worldwhether you're documenting code or writing help content.

Our Security lecture focused on how we embed product security into everyday development. Students learned what areas we focus on and how we ensure that security is an ongoing process, not just a final checklist. We also introduced the topic of AI security and wrapped the session with a hands-on challenge: a prompt injection game using Gandalf from Lakera AI.

Our UX session opened the world of user experience design from a perspective of Kentico. We discussed the role of a UX designer, what tasks they work on, and how to approach tasks like problem space mapping and coming up with good UX research questions. In hands-on session, students had a chance to try out the UX process themselves by thinking through an opportunity for a new app feature. They saw how UX isn’t just about making things look nice but about user value and feasibility.

We wrapped up the series with a deep dive into Artificial Intelligence. This session sparked discussion on the different ways AI is used todayfrom building custom models to using third-party tools for automation. We explored the difference between developing AI and simply using it, covering key concepts like prompt engineering, context handling, and the MCP protocol. In the practical part, each student built an application using agents, that pulled weather data to answer the question “Which country in Europe has the best weather today?

Everyone successfully completed the taskdemonstrating that it wasn’t just about finding the right answer but about understanding and applying the logic behind it.

Ing. Roman Valovič

“These collaborations help bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice by encouraging students to integrate knowledge from multiple courses and understand how interconnected the IT field truly is. They see that real projects require coordination across many areas, not just programming. This is especially valuable because many students mistakenly believe that IT is only about coding. Through these sessions, they discover a wide range of roles in which they can succeed, even if programming is not their strongest skill.”

More Than a Lecture Series

These lectures are part oKentico’s Community Ambassador Programan internal initiative that connects our team with university communities. Our goal? To support the next generation of IT professionals and share what working in real-world tech looks like, beyond the theory and into practice.

By sharing our know-howwe’re not only helping students take their first steps in the digital worldwe’re also learning, growing, and developing new skills ourselves. It’s a win-win that strengthens our company culture, builds brand awareness, and supports the long-term development of our industry. We’re proud of our ambassadors and the students they inspire. Here’s to building the next generation of digital professionals!
